Event Details

In making suspicious activity reports to the NCA, MLROs have largely operated on the basis that reports are confidential between the institution and law enforcement authorities. However, in the recent case of Lonsdale v NatWest the firm was ordered to disclose to its customer the contents of a SAR it had made about that customer.

This is the first evening roundtable event for 2019 at MLROs.com and the first kindly hosted by Mishcon DeReya!

The roundtable will be an interactive guided discussion and learning session.

This will be the first event that uses the results from the MLROs.com SARs Survey that was initially distributed in January 2019.

Tickets are limited and preferential allocation will be given to those who have completed the survey by way of a code issued on completion.

In this event we will cover:

  • Lonsdale v NatWest and its implications for MLROs and firms in all sectors.
  • Best practice around SAR reporting in order to comply with obligations, but minimise other risks including third party litigation
  • The expectations of regulators and AML supervisors – including the FCA
  • Developments around consent SARs (now called Defence against Money Laundering “DAML”)
  • Proposals for change including NCA review and Law Commission review.
